Writing academic papers is of course an important part of my job. However, I also think it is important for researchers to share their work in different ways, to make it easier for people who are interested to learn more about it.
Blogging is a cool way to do it. To me, a blog post is similar to an open page of a personal diary that we share with others. It doesn’t just convey information about the nature of our research and the results of our studies, but it also shed light our experiences and reflections.
I wrote several blogposts for the Global Disability Innovation Hub website and amongst my favourite are definitely the one where I share my experience working on the prosthetic trial with Amparo, and the one I co-authored with the wonderful Mikaela Patrick reflecting on challenges and opportunities for disability inclusion during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you are pondering about studying or starting a career in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) but you feel like an outsider, have a look at my interview with the Centre for Engineering Education in UCL. Hopefully, it helps you decide to give it a try after all!
I am planning to start a blog on this website soon, so stay tuned for updates!
Finally, I have spoken about my research at academic conferences and public events. Some personal highlights are the talk I took part in about Disability Stigma & the role of Innovation, or the special Disability Live from Tokyo featuring colleagues from UCL, GDI Hub and Keio (and the amazing Caz Walton). I was also truly honored to be part of the RESNA 2022 Conference Keynote Panel Discussion on “Rights Based Rehabilitation” led by Professor Tom Shakespeare.
If you are interested in my blogging or speaking activity, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
